Where companies hire, what they pay and how long people stay in Italy's energy transition job market. We run searches across the whole country, from the largest provinces to mountain municipalities: these are the twelve provinces where we have enough data to say something precise. Same figures as our city pages and role profiles, gathered in one place.

In the Italian green jobs market the median gross annual salary is €44,500, calculated on the mid-level bands of 54 professional roles; the full range runs from €26,000 to €100,000.

The best paid area of the Italian green market is Renewable energy, with a mid median of €52,500 gross per year.

Across the 12 Italian provinces tracked, 2,940 green sector hires were recorded over the last twelve months.

The Italian province with the most green hires is Milan, with 1,044 hires in the last year.

The sharpest contraction in the pool of green professionals is in Bologna, -38% in one year: the same roles have to be filled from a much smaller pool.

In the Italian green sector women make up 37% of professionals, and average tenure with the same employer is 3.4 years.

Ranked by number of green sector hires over the last twelve months. The market health index combines demand, competition between employers and turnover into a 0 to 100 value: it says how hard it is to find people, not how large the market is.

What companies pay

Gross annual salaries by area, across 54 roles

Gross annual salary, fixed component only. «Entry» is the lowest band among the roles in that area and «senior» the highest; the mid median is the central value of the two to five year bands, which is where most of the market sits. Italian gross salary is before income tax and employee contributions, and employer social charges sit on top: a figure here is not directly comparable with a German or Spanish package.

Method

How to read these numbers

These 12 provinces are not the whole of Italy, and not the whole of our work. The searches we run cover the entire country, small towns and inland areas included, and the candidates we place live everywhere. The twelve provinces above are the observation sample: the territories where we hold enough data to publish a number without inventing it. The averages on this page are therefore averages of the observed provinces, not national averages, and beyond Bari, Catania and Naples the South and the islands are not represented.

The hires are not ours. They are green sector hires recorded in each province over the last twelve months, obtained by cross referencing our own data with LinkedIn Talent Insights. The change in the pool of professionals measures how the stock of people with green skills available on the local market has shifted: a negative value alongside a high number of hires describes a market that absorbs more than it trains.

The salary bands come from compensation packages actually negotiated in our searches during 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, cross referenced with the ranges declared in sector job ads on LinkedIn and Indeed. They are fixed gross annual salary: bonus, benefits and variable pay sit on top, and on commercial roles the gap is wide. For the same job title, company type and geography weigh heavily, and geography alone can be worth more than 20%: the salary guide goes into detail.
